Today we’re grouting a porcelain patio using Mapei Ultracolor Plus. The paving is laid, and we’re now filling and finishing the joints to bring the whole patio together.
Care at the finishing stage
Before grouting, the joints need to be clean and ready to receive the material. We mix the grout to the manufacturer’s instructions, work it firmly into the joints and tackle a manageable area at a time.
As the grout begins to firm up, we clean the surface carefully so the joints stay neat and excess material is not left sitting on the porcelain. Timing matters: the aim is a crisp, consistent finish without washing material out of the joints.
How do we clean the grout off the porcelain?
We use a dedicated sponge cleaning machine to lift the grout residue from the face of the porcelain. The sponge passes over the paving, then runs through the rollers so it is rinsed and wrung out before the next pass. This gives us a clean, consistent sponge and avoids simply moving dirty grout water around the patio.
We work carefully across the tiles while the grout is at the correct stage, keeping the sponge flat and avoiding repeated heavy passes over the joints. Any remaining light haze is dealt with during the final clean after the grout has cured, following the product guidance.
Why we’re using Mapei Ultracolor Plus
For this job, Mapei Ultracolor Plus gives us the cement-based joint finish we want alongside the porcelain paving. Product choice is only one part of the result—the preparation, mixing, application, cleaning and suitable weather conditions all matter too.
Once the joints have cured in line with the manufacturer’s guidance, this patio will be ready for the final clean and handover.
